The difference between Europe and US

On Sunday we finally had some nice weather, and so I – just like everyone else around here – had the idea to go for a bike ride. As I was biking on a pretty trail outside of Göttingen and dodging all the other people, I saw this oldish guy: he had a plaster on his right foot, two crutches under his arm – and was happily biking along!

To me this seems to illustrate some significant cultural difference between the US and (at least central) Europe: here people don’t make a big fuss about things. Well, alright, the guy has a big plaster and needs to lug his crutches along, but why should that prevent him from going on a bike ride?
